Focus: The purpose of this issue is to examine faculty's experiences in introducing new courses on religion; lessons learned from long-time teaching of religion, spirituality, or mysticism; new programs or courses on the study of world religions with particular emphasis on the current interest in Islam; and strategies for teachers to use in keeping sectarian arguments out (or minimize them) of classroom discussions. Descriptions of new research centers on the study of religion and related topics, e.g. at Duke University (www.dukespiritualityandhealth.org//index.html) and the growing body of research on the relationship of religion/spirituality to mental and physical health and psychological research are also solicited. In addition manuscripts debating the place of religious studies in public institutions of higher education; how to foster/teach spirituality as a fundamental aspect of the human experience without teaching from a sectarian or religious bias; how faculty reconcile or integrate their religious beliefs with their scientific rationality; and moral/or religious education in K-12 or college education are welcome. Who Should Submit: Faculty or researchers who have designed, taught and/or assessed courses in religious studies, philosophy, or religion; who have designed, taught, and/or assessed courses including a religious or philosophical component; and/or dealt with issues of spirituality and sectarianism in the classroom or their teaching institution are invited to submit manuscripts.
